We are so glad that you have decided to join us as we create this exciting new online community where you have plenty of opportunities to meet face to face with the hearts and souls behind the letters on your screen.
I've been asked many times why my husband (who is a former Correctional Officer) and I created Mom2Mom.ca/LambtonKent, this online community for parents in Lambton & Essex Counties. We wanted an online resource for parents in the local community to be an encouraging, supportive and helpful website! So, here’s some history about us... I have been a SAHM (and my husband a SAHD) since my husband, George, became permanently disabled as the result of an auto accident in January of 1997. George and I became parents to our son, Kelton, on June 7, 2004. Since our other children are all much older, and we live on a farm near Sombra, we didn't know very many other parents. When I first became pregnant, I began spending a lot of time on various online parenting communities and found other moms to be valuable sources of comfort, advice, and support. Best of all, online communities could be tapped into 24 hours of the day; a great thing since my schedule was very erratic! However, there was one big drawback....it was highly unlikely that I would ever get a chance to meet any of my new-found friends face-to-face! I discovered Mom2Mom.ca, based in Windsor, ON, and I was hooked! The fellowship, support and advice I got there was second to none. I traveled to several of the Windsor events, and enjoyed them so much! I was disappointed to discover no similar site existed for the Lambton-Kent area, and vowed to create one. At the same time, I was trying to meet other flesh and blood moms in my local area...and discovered that they seemed to be almost impossible to find! I was sure there had to be other moms in the same boat I was in. A website like this that would connect moms in Lambton and Kent Counties was definitely LONG overdue. And so, here it is....a website for parents to meet other parents in Lambton and Kent counties. I hope to eventually organize Mom2Mom Get2Gethers so that we will be able to meet face-to-face and perhaps even organize regular playgroups for moms with younger children. This website will also connect you to the various resources available to parents in our area. I hope that you will help me expand our list of resources available by letting me know what is going on in YOUR community. This website will also feature a classified section where you can post ads for babies' and kids' stuff that you are looking to buy or sell. The original founders of the Mom2Mom.ca website have graciously lent their support to the creation of this website in the hopes that Mom2Mom sites will flourish across Canada.
